Each handcrafted piece is unique and made with special care by our artisans to ensure its longevity as a wardrobe staple. By consciously caring for your accessory with correct handling, storage and maintenance you can preserve its beauty, extend its life and in turn reduce your environmental impact. With this care guide you can enjoy your new raffia bag for many years to come. REFRESHING & RESHAPING Fortunately, raffia has a natural resin and while it may start to break down and soften after a while, you can help reactivate the natural resins by using a little steam. Note: The resin might be visible when you steam darker coloured raffia. Simply brush it off with a soft dry cloth or brush once it’s dry. Stuff the bag with colourless, acid free tissue paper. Use a domestic iron on the steam setting or a traditional clothes steamer. Steam the outside of the bag until warm and slightly moist to touch. Make sure the iron plate is about 10cm away from the bag; don’t let the iron directly touch the bag. Reform the bag to the desired shape with your hands whilst the bag is drying naturally. Allow to cool and dry naturally in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Trimming: If your bag has developed small fly away fibres, you can easily trim them with a sharp pair of scissors or snips; This won’t cause structural damage or unravel the bag. Cleaning: Spot clean using a soft cloth, cold water and mild detergent then allow it to dry naturally. Consult a dry cleaning professional for stain removal.
