Features: Unique Balouchi design with lively geometric patterns Handmade in Afghanistan with 100-percent wool from local sheep Knot count of 150 per square inch and pile height of 0.25 inches for exceptional quality Dominant colors include reds, blues, browns, golds, and beige Made by female weavers in the villages who benefit from rug weaving as well as the local farmers and artisans. Story Behind the Art: The weavers in the villages of Herat, Afghanistan, have woven this rug in a very primitive way on flat wooden looms with wool from their own sheep. Due to the handmade nature of this rug, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. The washing and natural vegetable dying of the wool is done in their villages, making each rug unique. As we grow, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
