Features: Handmade by village weavers within the Hazara tribe in the Bamyan province of Afghanistan Made with 100% wool and vegetable dyes Knot count of 150 per square inch and pile height of 0.25 inches Unique design with rich colors including red, ivory, blue, green, gold, navy, and tan Variations in color, size, and design due to the handcrafted touch of artisan skill Story Behind the Art: This rug was woven using traditional techniques by Afghan weavers in the northern (Turkoman tribes) and central (Hazara tribes) parts of Afghanistan as production of rugs in the Caucasus region is limited. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. By creating more jobs for female weavers, the community thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs. The vegetable dyes most commonly used are madder, walnut peel, pomegranate peel, and sparak. As a result of the handmade nature of our rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. Importantly, the community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
