Herat Oriental Handmade One-of-a-Kind Kerman Wool Rug
Description
This rug is a unique piece of world art that will enhance your living space. Kerman produces highly distinctive carpets primarily in highly floral medallion or all over designs. During the 16th and 17th century, these rugs were made by village weavers for the royal family, commissioned by the king and this is why they are called the 'Royal Kermans'. The rug is 100 percent wool. The knot count is 250. The pile height is 0.50 inches . Colors include ivory, blue, pink, gold and green. Story Behind the Art: This particular rug was made in the 1960's by village weavers in Kerman, which is a well known rug weaving province in Iran. The process of rug making includes cleaning, washing and dyeing the wool, and then weaving the rug with vegetable-dyed wool. Due to the handmade nature of our rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. Regular vacuuming and annual professional cleaning will keep your rug looking new for years to come. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Iran. As we grow, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs. The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected.
