Story Behind the Art: The rug's design originates from Mahal, Iran but was re-created in the Varanasi region of India by Bhadohi village weavers. Natural vegetable dyes are used to give the rugs rich colors. Due to the handmade nature of the rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. The majority of the weavers are women living in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. As we grow, we create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community thrives from rug weaving as local farmers benefit from wool sales, and local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs. Imported.
