La Pastiche Joan of Arc (The Maid of Orleans) with Renaissance Champagne Frame
Description
20" x 24"" In this artwork from 1865, the artist John Everett Millais shows Joan of Arc as a religious and military figure. As a Pre-Raphaelite, Millais embraced the figure's femininity by placing her in a red skirt. We see his style as well in the brilliant use of chiaroscuro; a heavenly glow of light surrounds her and glistens off her armor and helmet, while the black background aids in illuminating her. Millais chooses to depict Joan of Arc as a saintly hero, clasping her sword ready to battle. Frame Description: Renaissance Champagne Frame"
