I was born in Denpasar, a busy city and business center in Bali. My parents have crafted silver jewelry since 1986. I have four sisters and am the only son. When I was little, I often played with cousins and neighbors, and was very fond of kites. Although I have a university degree in law, at the age of 20 I started working at my parents' art shop. I help organize our designs in the art shop, promote our work in social media, and help sell at exhibitions. My hobby of playing with kites led to an interest in paper carving. In Bali, kites are not just a game, but are also an art. They are often decorated with paper carvings or carvings made of leather, such as dragon crown ornaments, necklaces, edge carvings, and head carvings. All of that is quite difficult for me to find in Denpasar. Because of that, I tried to start making it myself at that time. I didn't expect this to be a new opportunity for me. I also began to actively participate in competitions for young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship organizations. I never thought that this job — which started as a hobby — would help my economy, bring new relationships, and lead to my being selected as a Small Business Unit participating in an international exhibition at the G20 event. My grandfather used to say, 'Why the kite? That business can't make you big.' But it turns out that I can meet great people who support my workshop. I was chosen to represent Bali in an out-of-town entrepreneurship competition, and I won it. I was rewarded with entrepreneurship education and training facilities from a well-known academic and business practitioner in Indonesia. I am one of the beneficiaries of the Citi Foundation, Unesco. Recently I got a project with the team to decorate Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport with janggan kites decorated with paper carvings. This is something that I cannot forget because — indirectly — I can introduce Balinese culture through carving, using environmentally friendly materials. The handmade touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected.
